The KOKU recorder
Record a language lesson. Get it back written up.
KOKU records your online lesson from inside Chrome, with no bot in the call. A few minutes after it ends, the hour comes back as a recap, a vocabulary list, corrections and progress.
- How it records
- A free Chrome extension: your microphone and the lesson tab, as two tracks
- Works with
- Zoom in the browser, Google Meet, Preply, italki: any lesson in a Chrome tab

- No. Nothing shows on the other person's screen
- Lessons
- One-to-one. Not group classes
- Languages
- 27
- You need
- Google Chrome on Mac, Windows or Linux. Reading works on any phone
How it works
- Add the recorder to Chrome. It is free, one click from the Chrome Web Store.
- Press record when the lesson starts.
- Read the write-up a few minutes after it ends.
Why two tracks matter
Your microphone and the call are recorded separately, so the write-up knows who said what: which new words the learner used, which mistakes were theirs, and how much of the hour they actually spoke. One mixed recording cannot tell.
What comes back
- What you covered, written up.
- Every word that came up, with its meaning and a reading for non-Latin scripts.
- The learner's mistakes, quoted back with corrections.
- Practice and flashcards built from the lesson.
- Talk time and progress across every lesson.
One recorder, two products
- Teachers: Lesson Studio. You record, review the recap, and it goes to your student's portal. 3 recaps free, then from $29 a month.
- Learners: Lesson Journal. You record your own lessons and your teacher needs no account. 2 write-ups free, then $6.99 a month.
Recording and consent
Ask the other person before you press record. Some countries require everyone on a call to agree, and Preply and italki have their own rules about recording.
Questions
Does it work for group lessons?
No. Lesson Studio is built for one-to-one lessons: one teacher, one student. The recorder hears your microphone and the call as two tracks, so with several students on a call their voices share one track and the recap cannot tell who said what.
Which lesson platforms does it work with?
Any lesson that happens in a Chrome tab: Zoom in the browser, Google Meet, Preply, italki. No bot joins the call.
Do I need a computer?
To record, yes: Google Chrome on a Mac, Windows or Linux computer. Your students open their recaps on any phone.
